Asbestos Surveys

Following the introduction of Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations in 2002 there is now a statutory duty to manage asbestos in non domestic premises. This duty became law on May 21st 2004 and is placed on those who have responsibility to repair and maintain premises.

Asbestos contamination of machinery

The HSE now formally classify asbestos surveys into three main types;

  1. Type 1: Location and assessment survey (No sampling presumptive survey)
  2. Type 2: Standard sampling, identification and assessment survey (sampling survey)
  3. Type 3: Full access sampling and identification survey (pre-demolition/ major refurbishment surveys)
